The Shone House

61. The Shone House

602 Bridge Street

Thomas Shone built this rooming house in 1901. He contracted R.F. Hoy to build the hotel to serve the ever expanding business district along Railroad Street. The Shone House has outlived the booming business district of Railroad Street, as well as three large fires, two of which consumed the rest of this block. The fire in 1980 nearly destroyed the building, but it was restored and to date still has rooms available.

Thomas Shone was a notable man who also owned Toll House Station 12 miles north of Winnemucca and The Busch Hotel on Railroad Street. He also held public offices and took initiative to become the first road supervisor, after self-appointment.
